London Low Emission Law?
We own a 1979 Mercedes 508 Panel lorry that has been refitted as a Camper Van. We do not use it for any commercial purposes but solely to go away in and take our motorbikes with us. . How do we go about getting it decommissioned as a Lorry and re-registered as a camper van? We have received a notice banning us from London ref the new Low Emission law, but as a Lorry. What can we do to change it’s status to allow us to bring it back through london occasionally? Any help please?
I don’t think it would make any difference as the exhaust emissions will be exactly the same as before & your van will cost you about £200 a go to drive into London. There are some systems available to lower the emissions, but these can cost over £1000 to fit, & have to be regularly maintained, – check at your HGV MOT station for local suppliers. As the van is well before any Euro spec engines it may not be possible to even reduce the emissions to Euro 3 – the minimum currently allowed, & to rise to Euro 4 , then Euro 5 in the next few years.
