Why 12 and 15 Passenger Vans are Unsafe

Driving 15-passenger vans take much more training than a shuttle bus. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, on July 15th, they determined that 15-passenger vans are unstable when loaded with 10 or more people.

It is recommended by the NTSB that drivers of 15-passenger vans require more training and testing. The fact is, these vans handle different than cars and require a higher skill level.

The reason why this has become an issue is because of the passenger vans latest track records. In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that these vans, with 10 or more passengers, are three times as likely to roll than a van with less than 10 passengers.

One report in 2002, released by the NTSB proved that 52% of 15-passenger vans involved in single-vehicle, fatal accidents from 1991-2000 rolled over. Under the same conditions, cars rolled over only 33 percent of the time.

This data has prompted many churches to switch from passenger vans to shuttle buses and has even led many bus companies that specialize in 15-passenger vans sales toward churches to halt their sales and sell safer vehicles.

One such company in Tennessee, who once provided many churches with 15-passenger vans, has been phasing them out for years. Instead of selling them as passenger vans, the seats have been taken out and they were sold as delivery or cargo vans. This company now sells commercial buses, which most often require CDL licenses. Buses are far less likely to roll compared to 15-passenger vans.

These vans were never really designed to be passenger vans. Their original purpose was for cargo as a cheaper alternative. People are not cargo and deserve safer transportation.

The commercial bus is the safer, more comfortable alternative to the 15-passenger van. Passengers enter the bus and walk down an aisle instead of finagle their way into a passenger van. Passengers can even have the options of reading lights and overhead storage which provide more room for luggage and leave passengers in good thought rather than cramped thoughts and safety concerns.

A new commercial bus that seats 15, will range from $40,000-$60,000. CR Buses provides new and used buses that range in prices much lower than the national average. Our buses are available in gas and diesel, which gives buyers more options. 15-Passenger vans are available with gas engines.

By purchasing one good used shuttle bus you can replace two 15 passenger vans and provide a much safer ride for your passengers.

Goodbye So long…..?

So if you went in to buy a new Car/Van from KIA, and you saw the sales people jumping around (like on the commercial) and singing
Good bye So long, Farewell Aufwiedersehen from the Sound of Music. Each time they sold a new Car/Van, would you walk out of the dealership and buy else where?

No I like it when Car salesmen sing stuff from The Sound of Music , it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Manheim’s latest monthly  van market Analysis reports that, at £3,125, the average wholesale used van sale price was up 1.8% (£55) in May compared with April. This is the fifth consecutive monthly increase in average wholesale used van prices following the rise of 5.5% in January, 1.8% in February, 3.6% in March and 8.7% in April. Although the underlying trend is for a continuing strengthening of values, when compared with 12 months ago average wholesale used van prices were still down by 5.4% (£177) with average age four months lower at 52 months and average mileage 4,849 miles lower at 66,710.

Examples of the increases in average month-on-month values in May for vehicles more than two years old included Car Vans up by 9.9% (£178) to £1,978, Large Panel Vans > 3.0t up by 5.5% (£146) to £2,785, Buses up by 23.0% (£876) to £4,692 and 4x4s up by 5.8% (£300) to £5,493. In contrast the falls in average month-on-month values in May included Small Panel Vans down 1.3% (£45) to £3,348, Large Panel Vans < 3.0t down by 9.2% (£265) to £2,624 and Tippers down by 6.8% (£226) to £3,116.

Average month-on-month values for the vehicles of less than two years also experienced mixed fortunes. Large Panel Vans <3.0t rose by 13.3% (£782) to £6,670 however Car Derived Vans fell by 3.1% (£136) to £4,211, Large Panel Vans >3.0t fell by 8.0% (£674) to £7,703 and 4x4s fell by 8.9% (£900) to £9,242.

Commenting on the May report, Alex Wright, Sales Director, Commercial Vehicles, Manheim Auctions said: “The recovery in wholesale used van prices in 2009 is slow but steady. The increase in average values by 1.8% (£55) in May confirms the continued strength of the recovery in wholesale used van prices at a time when prices would be expected to fall in line with seasonal norms. As we enter the summer months I believe that values will now begin to stabilise but there may still be some upward price movement in specific vehicle segments whilst demand remains healthy.â€

New Vs. Used Commercial Vehicles

Are you planning to buy a new or used vehicle? Read this article before you get started. It does not matter whether you want to buy a new or a used one. Yet there are advantage and disadvantage of both. It is entirely your decision to choose but wisely. However, before you invest, learn the aspects of new and used commercial vehicles.

A new car always comes with several packages of offers. The offer includes a distinct period of guaranty or warranty. Along with that you get a bunch of special service for your car. You do not have to arrange for the insurance separately, it can be arranged from the company, too.

A used van does not hold a warranty always. However, if you purchase from any renowned company like Ford direct vans, you can get a warranty service for a second hand car, too.

For a new car, you do not have to worry about the cost. It comes as the same more or less for a model. Yet sometimes it varies from dealer to dealer. However, the price varies marginally and that too can be negotiated if you want.

Whereas you have to be really careful about the cost of a used van if you plan to buy one. Since the price often depends on the condition of the car you should be careful. However, if you buy from a company like Ford Direct Vans you don’t have to be bother that much. It is better to rely on them than other private sellers. However, it is strongly recommended to research before you purchase.

A new car always has more reliability than an old one. However, some of the old models have extremely good service record. Try to find out users’ report before you buy for both the cases. Sometimes a new model does not have good service and proved to have poor record. Try to learn as much as you can about the model you choose for both a new and a used car.

Do not hesitate to buy used vans out of shame. It is a common thought that brand new car has extra glamour. However, old models have their own charm. Be wise to choose your second hand car. Be careful when you go out for a test drive. Check out the engine, gear box, break and other important parts of the car.

It is true that a brand new car is safer than a used one. However, a used car may have the same safety level if the car has been used properly. Take care of the paperwork for the used car when you purchase.
